The Slits – Live At The Gibus Club (CD, Castle Music CMQCD 1058, 2005)
Live At The Gibus Club is a raw and vital live recording capturing The Slits at their fierce, chaotic best during a performance at the Gibus Club in Paris on January 26, 1978. This historic show delivers the band’s signature blend of punk defiance and playful experimentation, led by Ari-Up’s unrestrained vocals and the tight, jagged rhythm section of Palmolive, Tessa Pollitt, and Viv Albertine.
Released on CD in 2005 by Castle Music, this album includes 12 tracks, featuring early Slits staples like "So Tough," "Shoplifting," "Love and Romance," and a blistering cover of The Velvet Underground’s "Femme Fatale." Highlights also include "Instant Hit" and "Enemy Numero Uno" (also known as "Number One Enemy"). The raw audio preserves the DIY spirit and confrontational energy that made The Slits pioneers of punk.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering them for the first time, Live At The Gibus Club stands as a crucial document of the post-punk era and a must-have for collectors of classic punk music.
